Press Release

WOW and Prentice Hall PTR present The Web Professional Series

Folsom, CA. June 5, 1999 - Prentice Hall Professional Technical Reference (Prentice Hall PTR), a leading publisher of computer science and engineering books and software for professionals, and World Organization of Webmasters (WOW), a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and certification of Webmasters, have jointly developed a curriculum designed to bring Web Professional skills to the classroom and to the working professional.

The Web Professional's job spans a broad range of technical and business skills. A Webmaster's duties may include graphic design, working with programming and scripting languages, system administration, site administration, as well as Internet sales and marketing.

With thousands of Web sites launching daily, Webmasters are in demand. The need for competency standards and credentials for Web Professionals is increasingly urgent. WOW has worked with academic institutions and industry leaders for more than three years to develop a Web curriculum. This program is based on criteria adopted by the U.S. Department of Labor and provides two levels of Webmaster competency. Webmasters must demonstrate proficiency in three broad areas: technical, content management, and business.

Prentice Hall PTR will publish 4 titles as part of The Foundations of Web Site Architecture Series and 3 titles as part of The Advanced Web Site Architecture Series. These WOW-endorsed Study Guides are written by working professionals and academics currently teaching the material. Professors at major universities like the University of Maryland have reviewed each title and the WOW Review Board which consists of Web-industry professionals has vetted all. Six titles will publish by December 1999 with the seventh title arriving in 2000. The titles in each series are:

The Foundations of Web Site Architecture Series

· Understanding Web Development and Protocols

· Administering Web Servers, Security and Maintenance

· Creating Web Graphics, Audio and Video

· Exploring Web Marketing and Project Management

The Advanced Web Site Architecture Series

· Designing Web Interfaces, Hypertext and Multimedia

· Supporting Web Servers, Networking, Programming, and Emerging Technologies

· Exploring E Commerce, Site Management, and Internet Law

Each Study Guide will be integrated with a supporting Companion Web site. In addition, Prentice Hall PTR will publish WOW-certified interactive, multimedia CD-ROMs as part of its award-winning Complete Training Course Series.

Through Prentice Hall's Custom Publishing Program, the WOW-certified Study Guides will be offered to universities, community colleges, technical schools, and high schools in a manner that will allow schools to pick and choose just those parts of the Study Guides they need for their courses.

Finally, Prentice Hall will make the entire set of Study Guides available in HTML for those schools interested in offering WOW-certified courses over the World Wide Web. These publications may also be used to prepare for the WOW CPW Certification exam being offered in Spring 2000.

The purpose of the World Organization of Webmasters is to support and enhance the role of the individuals and organizations who create, manage or market web sites. This support is provided through membership in WOW. For information on becoming a member of WOW, please visit http://www.world-webmasters.org.
