WebFair '98 Helps Young People "Develop" on the Web
Sacramento, CA (March 18, 1998):- The National Association of Webmasters (NAW), Live Picture, Inc., and Net Guru Technologies, a Prosoft I-Net Solutions company announced today WebFair-- '98, a free series of half-day World Wide Web training events for junior and high school students. The first WebFair will take place during ICE at The World Trade Center, Beacon Hill Conference room, Thursday, March 26th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The goal of NAW's WebFair '98 is to bring young adults into a hands-on environment where they develop an understanding of what Web professionals do, the opportunities available, training required, the current challenges, and future prospects that lie ahead. Bill Cullifer, Executive Director of the National Association of Webmasters and WebFair's progenitor, calls WebFair '98 a "Web immersion event." Cullifer says it will be "history, technology, product, people, career, and training oriented, as well as lots of fun!"
"Education is an important focus for both the NAW and the Association of Student Webmasters. "WebFair '98 will provide the students with valuable insight into the future of business on the Internet and will provide them with the base skills they need to become a leader in the Internet industry. They will experience the latest Internet technology and get a sense of the incredibly fast pace of this industry," added Cullifer.
WebFair Boston will open with a keynote address by Live Picture followed by organized visits with mentors from the National Association of Webmasters and Web-related-product vendors, including Live Picture, Globalink, Adobe, Allaire, NetObjects, Web Site Garage and Networkstelephony AT&T will distribute free AT&T WorldNet Service Software, and Macmillan Computer Publishing and The Coriolis Group will distribute free books.
During the keynote, Live Picture will demonstrate how to create compelling visual Web experiences that help organizations effectively market and sell products online. Students will learn first-hand how to, in a matter of minutes, create a site where visitors "handle" and examine products in intricate detail, zoom into high-resolution images, and explore spectacular 360° panoramas-all in real time.
Uday Pabrai, vice chairman and chief technology officer, Prosoft I-Net Solutions, will speak to students at WebFair '98 about Certified Internet Webmaster programs offered by Net Guru Technologies, Inc. a Prosoft I-Net Solutions company and how individuals obtain an Internet Webmaster certification. Pabrai will address the importance of Web professionals in the marketplace and the need for an increased number of certified Internet professionals at all technical levels - from end users to Web engineers. "WebFair '98 promotes educating students and introducing them to the roles and responsibilities of Web professionals," said Pabrai. "Prosoft is pleased to participate in a program that offers students insight into a career in Internet technology."
To be announced, Program Director for The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) an international organization whose focus on teaching business skills to under-privileged students has helped more than 10,000 students over the last ten years will speak about their national efforts.
