WebFair '98 Helps Young People "Develop" on the Web
Sacramento, CA (March 8, 1998):- The National Association of Webmasters (NAW), Live Picture, Inc., and NetGuru Technologies, announced today WebFair98, a free series of half-day World Wide Web training events for junior and high school students. The first WebFair will take place during Mecklermedia's Spring Internet World at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Thursday, March 12, from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m., Room 411.
The goal of NAW's WebFair98 is to bring young adults into a hands-on environment where they develop an understanding of what Web professionals do, the opportunities available, training required, the current challenges, and future prospects that lie ahead. Bill Cullifer, Executive Director of the National Association of Webmasters and WebFair's progenitor, calls WebFair '98 a "Web immersion event." Cullifer says it will be "history, technology, product, people, career, and training oriented, as well as lots of fun!"
"Education is an important focus for both the NAW and the Association of Student Webmasters. We are thrilled that leading organizations like Live Picture and NetGuru are getting involved in educating today's young people," said Cullifer. "WebFair '98 will provide the students with valuable insight into the future of business on the Internet and will provide them with the base skills they need to become a leader in the Internet industry. They will experience the latest Internet technology and get a sense of the incredibly fast pace of this industry," added Cullifer.
WebFair Los Angeles will open with a keynote address by Live Picture followed by organized visits with mentors from the National Association of Webmasters and Web-related-product vendors, including Live Picture, Webdeveloper.com and JavaBoutique.com, ICVERIFY, Adobe, AboveNet Communications and Mainstay. AT&T will distribute free AT&T World Net Service Software, and Macmillan Computer Publishing will distribute free books.
During the keynote, Live Picture will demonstrate how to create compelling visual Web experiences that help organizations effectively market and sell products online. Students will learn first-hand how to, in a matter of minutes, create a site where visitors "handle" and examine products in intricate detail, zoom into high-resolution images, and explore spectacular 360° panoramas-all in real time.
Uday Pabrai, vice chairman and chief technology officer, Prosoft I-Net Solutions, will speak to students at WebFair '98 about Certified Internet Webmaster programs offered by Net Guru Technologies, Inc. a Prosoft I-Net Solutions company and how individuals obtain an Internet Webmaster certification. Pabrai will address the importance of Web professionals in the marketplace and the need for an increased number of certified Internet professionals at all technical levels - from end users to Web engineers. "WebFair '98 promotes educating students and introducing them to the roles and responsibilities of Web professionals," said Pabrai. "Prosoft is pleased to participate in a program that offers students insight into a career in Internet technology."
Michelle Welsh, Director of Flash Product Marketing from Macromedia, (http://www.macromedia.com) will demonstrate how students can create award-winning graphics and animation with Flash. Steve Shannon, Senior Product Manager from Macromedia, will demonstrate how to integrate existing graphics into HTML Web pages with the exciting new Dreamweaver.
