Southern Nevada Chapter of NAW Announced
The National Association of Webmasters announces a Southern Nevada Chapter headed by Becky VanHoak.
Las Vegas, NV (November 13, 1997):- Becky VanHoak has been named the Southern Nevada Chapter Director for the National Association of Webmasters. For the last ten years, Mrs. VanHoak has been employed by the Clark County School District. Six of those years were spent teaching elementary music. While teaching music Mrs. VanHoak received her Masters Degree in Educational Technology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 1993 VanHoak moved from the music room to the computer lab at William E. Orr Middle School. Her duties have included providing her school with hardware, software, teacher training and online support while teaching students computer literacy and producing the school's yearbook.
Mrs. VanHoak spent the 1996-97 school year as a Teacher On Special Assignment working with the school district's Instructional Technology Department. There she worked with the district's telecommunications department and implemented computer training for teachers.
During her teaching career Mrs. VanHoak has formally and independently studied web design, and web-related technologies, and has been developing her school's web page. Now that she has returned to the classroom, Mrs. VanHoak is keeping her focus on education. She is teaching her 7th grade students how to build their own web pages while spearheading an after school Webmasters Program where 8th grade students at Orr Middle School are responsible for designing and maintaining their school's web pages.
In making the announcement, Bill Cullifer, Executive Director said, "Jasmine brings to NAW an excellent knowledge of the web industry as it is today. She understands and conveys the spirit of NAW's chief mission statement, which includes the creation of professional standards, the communication among all webmasters from government, business and education, as well as providing for the education of present and future webmasters to help fill the current and future needs of the industry. We are very pleased to have her represent Georgia in the association."
The National Association of Webmasters is an organization dedicated to the support and enhancement of the role of individuals and organizations who create, manage or market web sites as well as the education of future web developers.
